Hockenheimring, Germany.
Oliver Svendsen has made motorsport history by winning the 2024 IDM SuperSport 300 Championship. With this triumph, he becomes the first Dane to achieve this title.
After an excellent season, the young road racing talent arrived at the finale at the Hockenheim Ring with a 30-point lead. This meant that Oliver could theoretically leave a race and still be 5 points ahead.
Strategic Driving
Before the first race of the weekend, a clear plan was drawn up between Oliver and Team Freudenberg KTM. Oliver was to focus on staying at the front and at least being just behind his closest competitor, Ruben Bijman. From the start, Oliver showed impressive speed and placed himself in a front group of four riders. The excitement increased when the race management announced that Oliver was under investigation for a false start, but fortunately it turned out that he had “just” had a perfect start.
During the race, Oliver constantly fought for top positions and showed that he was not only racing for the championship, but also for podium places.
“I have a plan”
"As Egon Olsen would say: 'I have a plan.' Fortunately, it quickly became clear that Oliver is better at making a plan than the well-known gang."
On the last lap of the race, Oliver was in 3rd place, close behind Ruben Bijman and with a reasonable lead over Dylan Czarkowski in 4th place. When Oliver crossed the finish line, the championship was secured and he could call himself the German Champion in the IDM SuperSport 300.
Oliver stated:
“Becoming IDM champion is amazing and completely unreal. The fact that we were able to execute our plan with 100% success is absolutely amazing, and securing the championship in the penultimate race of the season is incredible. It allows me to race the last race of the year without the pressure of the championship.
Last Race of the Season
After a well-deserved celebration on Saturday night, the focus turned to the final race of the season. The plan was simple: Oliver had to race and show that the championship title was well deserved. Once again, he got a fantastic start and was able to focus on the race, which was also evident in his fastest lap time.
After an intense battle for the top positions, the race was decided on the last corner. Teammate Phillips Tonn made a small mistake, which led to changes in the top positions. When the last IDM race of the year was flagged off, Oliver secured a podium finish in 2nd place, just 0.14 seconds behind Ruben Bijman.
Oliver said:
“Winning the championship with 26 points was something I never imagined when the season started. The KTM RC390R has been the perfect match for me, and the collaboration with Team Freudenberg KTM has been fantastic. This success would not have been possible without my fantastic sponsors, helpers and supporters.”
Forward-looking Plans
Now the work begins to plan the 2025 season, where Oliver hopes that his performance in the WM division at Most, along with the IDM championship title, can pave the way for a full season in the SuperSport 300 class.
The season is not quite over for Oliver, as he will participate in the AMK Club Championship at Jyllands Ringen on Saturday, September 31, where there will also be a thank-you reception for sponsors, helpers and supporters.
